While many of us are having fun on the net, as we should, others are dying in faraway places called Iraq and Afghanistan. This site is keeping a current count of the cost of this fallacy, and paying respect to the dead. Many of you don't know real war, you may play faux war simulations on the net, but others have seen it up close, the real thing. I was in Vietnam, it wasn't a simulation and it was definitely not fun or anything a Harry Potter fan can talk about.
I'm not old enough to remember Korea or WWII, but this site, www.slowfade.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=military , is paying homage to those who do. It's worth a look, to see what past generations and the current generation are suffering through, if you could take a moment away from fantasy message boards and war simulations, to actually see what you may see up close if the draft is re-instated.
I'm not opposed to fun, but, my fear is that young people who don't know history may be canon fodder for this and future wars. A list of the dead is at: www.slowfade.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=military
You might want to simply post respects to them, registration isn't required to salute them. But respect is, to take a moment, one moment only, isn't too much to ask, is it? War isn't a game and it isn't fun, I know that from personal experience. I also know that while we're looking askance, our government is planning on bringing back the draft.
Many of you will be affected. The theory, "What you don't know won't hurt you", is a fallacy.
www.slowfade.proboards78.com/index.cgi?board=military knows this and is trying to alert you to the dangers we face. At the very least, stop by as a guest and pay your respects to our fallen American troops, at the most, join and make your voice heard. All views are accepted, Republican, Democrat, whatever.
You might be touched by the stories you read there. All it takes is a moment of your time to look, but it's a moment well spent.
